Hundreds of Wisconsinites
to run for
National Convention
Delegate
DPW Holds Delegate
Trainings in
Communities Across the State
As the presidential primaries
sweep across the country, Wisconsin’s
delegate selection process continues. Over the
next two months, the DPW will
hold trainings in every county in the state
about how to become a delegate to
the national convention. There are already over
40 trainings scheduled for
February. From La
Crosse County to
Chippewa
County
to Waukesha
County, local
activists are organizing
to run for delegate; so they can represent
Wisconsin at
the national convention.
“Now more than ever, it’s
clear that Wisconsin
will play a significant role in the Democratic
presidential primary, and our
delegates will be crucial in deciding the
nominee,” DPW Chairman Joe Wineke
said. “In communities across the state,
activists are organizing at the local
level, in hopes of representing our state at
the national
convention.”
Wisconsin will send 92
delegates to the national convention in
Denver. After
the state’s February 19th primary,
each county will meet and vote on
delegates they will send to the congressional
district caucuses in May.
Congressional district caucus delegates will
vote for the final delegates to
send to Denver.
The number of delegates for each candidate will
proportionally reflect the
primary results.
“Record democratic turnout
in early primaries is a testament to the
incredible enthusiasm and support for
our field of Democratic candidates across the
country – and Wisconsin
will be no different,” Wineke
said. “Already, Wisconsinites are organizing to
become a delegate to the
national convention.”
“We are committed to making
this an open and inclusive process and to
making sure that everyone that wants
to run for delegate has the opportunity to do
so,” Wineke said.
