Hundreds of Democrats Around
As the excitement of
Democratic presidential primaries sweeps across
the country, the Democratic
Party of Wisconsin (DPW) begins its delegate
selection process this week.
Delegate intent forms are
now available from the State Party and are due
before the county caucuses in
April. This is the first step in the DPW’s
process of selecting delegates for
the 2008 National
Convention.
“Record Democratic turnout
in early primaries is a testament to the
incredible enthusiasm and support for
our field of Democratic candidates across the
country – and
Each county will meet and
vote on delegates they will send to the
congressional district caucuses in May.
Congressional district caucuses will vote for
delegates to send to national
convention. Candidates that are not chosen
through this process may re-file and
run to be an at large delegate, which will be
voted on by the DPW’s
administrative committee at the state
convention in June.
“We are committed to making
this an open and inclusive process and to
making sure that everyone who wants
to run for delegate has the opportunity to do
so,” DPW Chairman Joe Wineke
said.
Over the next two months,
the DPW will hold trainings about how to become
a delegate to every county
party and any other group that requests one.
“We strongly encourage
anyone that is interested to run to be a
convention delegate, and we will do
everything we can to make sure everyone has
that opportunity,” Wineke said. “We
hope to send the most diverse delegation
possible to the convention in
August.”
